Housing Options

  • Foundation Communities is a local nonprofit that provides affordable apartment housing in high quality complexes throughout Austin. AmeriCorps members who reside at this site may be eligible for a discounted rate. You will have a higher chance of securing housing through Foundation Communities if you apply in pairs.

  • Ayava House at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary is an intentional community of people from AmeriCorps as well as people from the Presbyterian and Episcopal Young Adult Volunteer program that several members have used. Applicants must also be between 21-29 years old, and desire to be part of an intentional residential experience for 12 months. It is housed on the Presbyterian Seminary Campus, but this is not necessarily a religious living situation.

  • College Housing 

College Houses is a nonprofit that is managed cooperatively by their members. Elected officer groups at each co-op house performs the day-to-day operational duties in the facilities. CH is a democratic environment where members vote on house business at weekly house meetings. Rental rates include food, utilities, and internet, and they can keep their rates low because members are doing 4 hours of labor each week, which includes all of the cooking, cleaning, and day-to-day upkeep of the co-ops.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • AmeriCorps Central Texas Members

  • Over the age of 18 at the time that contract starts

  • Residents under the age of 21 must have a guarantor

  • Must provide documentation of enrollment in a college or high school within the last two (2) calendar years

  • Must provide acceptable documentation of income eligibility, per the City of Austin’s Income Verification Forms

  • Must request and maintain a contract at 21st St. Co-op, Laurel Co-op, Halstead Co-op, or Nueces Co-op
